WHAT IS KUNDALINI YOGA?
There is a short and long answer to that question.
Short answer: Kundalini Yoga is an ancient system of practices that involve breath, movement, postures, mantra and meditation. Collectively these practices can strengthen the nervous system, balance the glandular system, and rewire the patterning in the brain to create a happier and healthier you. Kundalini Yoga is not a religion and does not require being “spiritual” — it simply requires your self-initiation and showing up for the practice.
Long answer: The system of Kundalini Yoga has endless layers of depth to it. Where you can take it, depends on how deep you want to go. The practice is an opportunity to dive deep within yourself to heal childhood and other patterning, in order to clear whatever it is that is stopping you from accessing your full potential and happiness. After the clearing of old blocks and patterning, it becomes an opportunity to optimize your brain and energy to create the reality that you want to live in, no matter what your outside circumstances are. Kundalini yoga brings the power back to you.
There is somewhat of a choose your own adventure aspect to it depending on your objectives and focus areas in your life. I fundamentally believe that Kundalini Yoga is for everyone even if everyone is not ready for it and the awareness that it brings. Kundalini Yoga is a path to empowerment but with empowerment comes relentless self-accountability.
In terms of science, there is a yogic science side to Kundalini Yoga and then there is a hard modern science side to it too. In terms of yogic science, the real-time results of longevity, human happiness and health have been documented, tested, and practiced by lineages of “yogic scientists” and practitioners over thousands of years. Modern science in many ways is starting to catch up to yogic science, and a lot of hard science is coming out now to prove what has been known in yogic science for thousands of years — which is very exciting! I am personally fascinated by the cross-section of the two and have chosen to live my life as my own yogic scientist, trying to see what works and leads me to a happy and healthy life.
